January Historical Highlights
Advertised in the July 1, 1908 issue of the Market Growers Journal, this potato digger
can easily be operated with four horses. It is a far cry from today's diggers that include steering wheels and hydraulically driven sorting belts.

It consists of a hand pump on a barrel with two lines of hose each 25 feet long. Gas
pipe extensions carrying double Vermorel nozzles are looped up on the poles just as
the machine is driven in from the field. The object of the poles, which are pivoted to the platform, is to keep the long hose off the wheels and the vines. Three men with this
outfit will spray five or six acres a day. July 22, 1908
